How HRI changes the customer review

How to move from activity reporting to conversations about exposure, priorities and improvement.

Written by Kerryn Zendera

Quarterly business reviews (QBRs) are where MSPs prove their value. Activity-only reviews can feel operational. Risk-led reviews make exposure, progress and next steps clearer.

The concept explained

A risk-led QBR shifts the focus from what was done to what it means. A simple structure:

  • Where risk sits now: open with the current human risk picture, led by the highest-priority users and any Toxic Combinations.

  • What changed: show movement since the last review, including risks resolved and scores that improved.

  • What we did: connect the improvement to specific actions the MSP took, so the value is clear.

  • What comes next: agree the priorities for the coming quarter, focused on the most urgent remaining risks.

The aim is a conversation about exposure and improvement, not a recap of completion rates.

What it means for an MSP

Leading QBRs this way reinforces the MSP as a proactive security partner and can support stronger renewal conversations. It also creates a natural rhythm: each review sets the priorities that the next review reports against.

A practical customer example

Last quarter an MSP resolved three Toxic Combinations for a customer and improved the overall risk picture. In the QBR, the MSP opens with those wins, ties them to specific work, then agrees the next three priorities. The customer leaves seeing a clear line between the service and a safer business, rather than a list of tasks completed.

Key takeaway

A risk-led QBR opens with where risk sits, shows what changed and why, and agrees what comes next. It turns a status update into a strategic conversation.
